Just a call from this number. Caller id said dayton ohio but sounded like male from india. Told me they received info that someone was trying to hack into my computer and they wanted to help me.. I hung up on him and blocked the number
Actually, the (937) 269-5154 number appears to be a spoofed number that actually belongs to TELEPORT COMMUNICATIONS AMERICA, LLC - OH. If you call it back, you get a Verizon Wireless Message that the Number has been Disconnected or Changed, which means if you are getting the calls from that number, it is probably spoofed. Do not...EVER...follow directions from anyone calling to have you give them access to your computer. If you do, you stand the change of losing more than just the data on your computer. They will install programs that give all of your data to them, such as banking records and such. If you do answer, have a Freon Air Horn near by and let them have one in the phone, and they will not call back...
Keep getting calls from this number on a daily basis! Can't hear anything on other end other than static and distant male voice. Sounds like a call center of some kind. I'm on the DO NOT CALL list but the calls just keep coming!!! These people need to be stopped!
Fist make sure your GOOD antivirus software is up to date. Disconnect from the internet. Run a full scan. If you're using some wonky garbage that a cold-calling scammer sold you it might have to go to the brick & mortar repair shop. If you want something free (that's good) there is Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, Avast. You can even get (from Microsoft for free) a Windows Defender that you run off-line.
