I ignored call from this unknown number, but they left voicemail. Listened to it later...silence for almost two minutes before I gave up and ended/deleted the voicemail message. Disgusted at this wasting of my cell phone minutes! Blocked number now.
Got a voicemail from this number with a mike James from the dept of transportation in Amarillo calling for me to make a payment to get my license out of suspension ... My license isn't suspended and I owe nothing to any court system. They left an 832 number for me to call back on and that's not even Amarillo area code. So I called this number that the call came from and it rang and then hung up and I called back and it told me to press 1 to be put on the do not call list.
This scammer calls mobile phone numbers without a preexisting business relationship, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. They further violate the TCPA by failing to have an operator on the line when the call is answered, and still further by playing a recorded message without an operator on the line. When you do get to an operator, they further violate the TCPA by refusing to provide a phone number or physical address. Their recording states that the victim's auto warranty has just expired, and that it is imperative that you speak with them to get the warranty extended to prevent loss of service. This is clearly a scam, as no legitimate warranty service would conduct business this way, nor would they be calling regarding a 41 year old or 52 year old car. Do not provide this scammer with any personal or financial information.
