they call regarding a collection from me and contacting legal advice so that they cannot sue me for adebt. They ask me to call them with a statement or my legal advisor if I wanted to settle this.
from law site - http://consumerlawyer.mn/debt-collector-calls-someone-else/ - Once a debt collector knows they have called the wrong party, they have to stop calling. If you receive a debt collection phone call for someone else, and you tell the debt collector that you are not that consumer, they should stop calling.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) expressly regulates calls to third parties in section 15 U.S.C. 1692b(3), stating that a debt collector shall “not communicate with any such person more than once unless requested to do so by such person or unless the debt collector reasonably believes that the earlier response of such person is erroneous or incomplete and that such person now has correct or complete location information.” (especially a cell phone number - btw - you can transfer a number to a free google voice account and then to a cell phone, just fyi.
