We've been receiving many calls lately from our area code and exchange.  I believe that it is in hopes that the persons called will believe it is a local number and pick up.  In actuality, when the number is googled, it may be from a deceased person, government personnel or employment number, even some unsuspecting individual in the public who has no idea that their number is being spoofed so that the person called will pick up and they can carry on their criminal activity.
This call ended before our rather derisive phone message ended.  Too bad, so sad, worst day we ever had.  The best thing is to have a good number blocker and use it.  I actually get a kick out of getting home from work, checking out all the idiot phone calls and blocking those that obviously have no purpose.  They serve a purpose and it has become some of my entertainment.  Hope it does that for others.  Rather than complain (which does NO good), have fun with the low-lifes of the universe.
