The debt statute of limitations refers to the amount of time after which creditors can no longer sue you to collect a debt. If a debt collector threatens to sue you over a debt that is beyond the state statute of limitations, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
This company, a female caller, called my cell phone asking for my wife. I asked what the call was pertaining to and she told me that it was a legal matter and that my cell phone number was listed as hers. My wife has had the same phone number for the past 10 years. I identifed myself as a police officer and asked her not to contact me again and she was very rude and told me that she was going to continue to call me until I allowed her to talk to my wife. My wife does not have any oustanding debt. This may or may not be a legit company, however, the call was disconnected when I asked for a detailed letter, on letter head, with all the information about the nature of the call.
