A local area code called daily for several calls, I said remove me from your call list and the robot (ray creuset) said "okay, goodbye" and hung up. Called several more times from that number and now today, from a new area code that shows up as the same contact as the local area code number that has been calling. The numbers are in my contacts, which leads me to believe this set of numbers has been contacting me prior to this week's calls.
It may to an extent suit a given telco's business model not to limit the trash flood, but unilaterally choking off all the upstream providers is not currently possible in a phone network which has virtually no inherent security or user authentication. Therefore the Grand Unified Theory of junk call control is not "ever so simple" to achieve. The phone carriers "allow" audible spam the way I allow a thunderstorm to soak my house and property.
Incorrect. Trust me. I was involved in sales with a less than stand up company. The tactic I describe is exactly how we got around the law.
Oops, I mistakenly dialed Mr./Mrs. Customer number by mistake, hung up when I saw the DNC, so no unlawful contact. The called ME back, wishing to do business. They told me they were happy I called, they said they had misplaced my number. Don't know what the problem is...
Even IF a shaky business relationship was claimed, the company must stop calling if the consumer requests this - otherwise the company is setting itself up for a lawsuit!
