South asian man with a very heavy accent tries to direct you to a website that likely has a virus. He claims he is Microsoft Technical Support and that there is a problem on your computer. I'm tempted to report this to the police.

Some numbnut called with an Asian Indian accent saying his name is Eric and I have a "very serious" virus on my "Microsoft" computer. When I asked him what computer, he said my "Microsoft" one. Knowing this was straight up BS I asked if it was mine or my wife's. I then asked the Mensa genius what was the originating email of the infected computer. He couldn't answer. I then asked whose name it was under. When he said "Johnson" I told him he had the wrong name, wrong number and obviously wrong computer. He was still insistent that I correct the error virus on my "Microsoft" computer by turning on my computer and allowing him access remotely.  After causing Eric the Indian Einstein to stumble across his scam/telemarketing/criminal phone call, I think it became hilarious when I told him I had an Apple computer and found it strange he'd be getting error messages from my "Microsoft" computer. I then asked him never to call me again and wished him a good evening.  Definitely not one of the brightest people I've conversed with. But definitely a scam artist.

I did the same thing with the Indian idiot who called me tonight saying his name was Eric.  I toyed with him for a couple of minutes and asked him what computer had the problem and he said my "Microsoft" computer. After messing with him for a bit I asked him what email he got it from.  He had no answer.  Then I asked him what my name was.  He said Johnson which wasn't remotely in the ballpark.  I'm amazed at how stupid these criminals can be. In any event I told him to never call this number again, and wished him a good evening.  He stumbled over his words and said thanks. I suspect these guys are breaking the law.

In all likelihood they got your name and number from a "cold call" list.  It's a telephone directory that the phne company sells for a few hundred dollars.  Chances are the scammers are cheap because they were using an old list (more than 7 years old).  If these idiots call you, ask them what email address the errors are coming from. They don't have that. Neither windows, nor Microsoft contact people by phone and they do not call unsolicited.  If they now have your name, it's simple; just tell them that you're sorry to inconvenience them but you just got the phone number and received a couple of calls for the last person who'd had that number. Then if they're persistent, ask them what email address their "error reports" came from.  They don't have them because they don't exist. Once you establish that you know they're full of BS, simply tell them to remove you from their calling list and to never call you again. Once you've done that, if they ever call you again, you can file criminal charges against them.  Good luck. :)
