We received a phone call from this number, 971-373-2957, CID "Service Local." Whatever "Service Local" means...anyway, they did leave a message commanding (and I do mean COMMANDING) us to answer the phone since our computer was in, as they put it, "extreme danger." BTW, the caller had a hindi accent.
Take a look here:

I believe that it was the whocallsus.com website, but don't quote me, that someone posted that this number also called them to tell them that there was something wrong with their computer. The caller instructed the poster to go to a particular website and follow the instructions to disinfect their computer. Fat chance...
Along with this charming message, my email filter routinely filters out messages with message lines that threaten us with the 'health of our computer' if we continue to ignore their demands. (EXTORTION!!!) The email addresses are just as phony as the phone numbers that they display on CID: domains such as witeople.com, nephronareole.com, nepoticaramid.com, wikimedia.com, (Yes! wikimedia!) and drinkpleasant.com (Do tell!).
I simply refuse to legitimize this behavior with my attention. I don't answer the phone unless I like what CID tells me and I keep my email spam filter up on its highest gradient. I also sleep well at night.
