I received text messages from 973-814-6223 regarding my photography services for a family reunion. After discussing convincing details of the event and my charges I was asked for a "favor" - to accept the payment for the venue/event planner who "doesn't has facility to credit card machine" - I refused and the conversation immediately ended. Beware of scams like this! If I would have agreed, the conversation would have turned to collecting my account details for payment - NEVER give your account details to anyone - make them send a check or pay via PayPal (or similar) protected method. Furthermore, even if this was not a scam, this could have been money laundering. Remember that as a business that your income (and expenses) need to be accounted for, and this kind of situation could get you in trouble with the IRS at the very least.
Just got a text from this same person. I asked them where they got my number and where they're located. I'm in California so if they're in NJ, that's going to be A LOT of money to travel for them!
Same type of message from a James Cole. I tried calling back and it went to a text message service. I don't do professional business through text so I thought this was weird. Had no idea it was a scam though. Thank you for the info.
