I got the same call from this number. They knew where I live and all. I don't know how it happened please help. I don't want to get involve in this scam.
They tell you that you've been chosen to receive a government grant for whatever amount they tell you. It's always $9000 for me!!! Ha!
Anyway, they say they can put it into your bank account or debit/credit card or they can Western Union it to you!!! First of all you CAN'T Western Union that much money! Second, they tell you to go to your nearest Wal-Mart or Western Union spot and to call them before you walk in-oh and to bring $250 in cash with you!!!!! Then they want you to go in and send them the $250 cash you have to cover the Western Union fee and then they'll send you $9250 right back!!!!! RIGHT!
I asked them why I needed to send them $250 if they were going to give it right back? They couldn't answer! I also asked them why they couldn't just send me $8750 to cover the fee and they couldn't answer!!!! I then asked them why they wouldn't just send me a government check and they said they'd had some complaints from people about the checks! Who's going to complain about a $9000 check????
These people are the lowest of the low!!! Total scam artists who prey on people in need of a break!! My husband actually watched a young mother at Wal-Mart send off her last $500 to these people and they kept her on the phone and tried to get her to send MORE while telling her the money they sent should be there any minute!!! This happened before I got the call, so my husand didn't know what was going on exactly, but he stepped up and told the lady at the Western Union to not let this girl send anymore money because she was obviously being scammed!!
Anyway, everybody beware of these people! Call the cops and report them-I did! We can stop the scammers if we take action against them!!
I also got this same ridiculous phone call from 202-000-1111. The guy had the same story about how I was "selected out of only 1500 people" to receive this government money as part of some government act. After me playing along for a while, when the guy asked for my name I demanded to know why he didn't have my name if I had been "selected". He couldn't answer and just kept telling me to call this other number to "release" my money. He then mentioned a fee of $250-300. I said yeah, ok, laughed, and hung up. Total scam.
I got the same message, from 202-000-1111. My caller was a male with middle eastern accent. I laughed and asked, " You're telling me that you are calling me from the US Treasury Department of the United States?" He answered yes. I asked him for his employee id and he said 3M117. Then he said, "Do you have any other questions you want to ask me?" I said, "and you're calling ME to tell me that you have money for me? From the US Government?" He said, "Maam, you don't have to raise your voice to me or question me." and hung up. I think he was crying. Pitiful waste of both of our time.
I just got a call from this number telling me they're from Treasury Dept in Washington DC. They chose me to receive $9,000 some odd dollars. The Govt will send this money to me but I have to speak to a Supervisor to confirm my personal info.
I told this female person (I could hardly understand her with her thick accent.) that I don't do business over the phone. The Govt doesn't call. They send you a letter
Not interested and I hung up.
I'm baffled as to what they're up to.
