04/14 9:49 am PST Received a call from 202-223-3212
Saying he was from Department of Windows
When I asked which specific company he was from, he initially tried to evade the question, but then said he worked for Microsoft.
He said they detected serious errors and monitoring download infractions from internet downloads. It was a free service that he would be walking me thru how to protect my computer.
When I asked which computer, he said mine. I said, yes, but I have several so which one specifically. He then provided me with a bogus computer license security ID
4/24 - used caller ID and confirmed with Verizon that it is their land-line customer.
CALL VERIZON at 800-253-0846 and ask for fraud dept. and COMPLAIN about this group!
The guy called my white pages listed home phone.
Guy with definite Indian accent said he was from Microsoft Windows and told me they saw a lot of email and web problems "attacking" my computer. So I played along....
I said that sounds really bad and must be serious problem.
He asked if my computer was on and told me if so to turn it off.
I asked him for how long I should leave it off and he said a day.
I asked him his name and he said BJ (sic).
I asked him for his number in case I had to call him back for help,
and he said 999- then last 7 of my number that he had called (sic).
Let him go on for a bit, but he didn't try to sell me anything,
so I put him on hold and left him there.
In hindsight, I should have asked him if he was wearing pantyhose, and given him a gradual creepy conversation.
googled the number,
Saw Verizon land line mentioned some other comment here or elsewhere -- I called Verizon
800-253-0846 and spoke with fraud dept. --
and confirmed with them.
I told them to do something about their customer and to google the number
to see all the complaints about this number before the FBI came after Verizon.
