I received a call from this number saying that there is a fraud suit against me. They were calling me on behalf of a cash advance that I applied for in the past. They said that I owe a balance of $398.00. My question to this person was how come this is the first time hearing about this. Since the company has my address, why didn't the contact me by mail and I would have resolved it at that time. I am not handing over any money until I can verify the information. This is not the first time that I have received calls about this. I check my bank statements frequently and the cash advances that I applied for have been deducted from my account. I would appreciate an investigation into this matter.
I had them call me repeatedly and threaten me today. When I was given an opportunity to ask them questions, I asked for a full name (Steve Hart), the company he represented (Edelson and Associates), where they were based out of (Washington DC) and his Bar Association number. At that point Steveo got angry and demanded to know why I needed that information so I hung up. They then called back with Emergency 911 on my caller ID instead of the number. I ignored it.
Later that day they called and were angry that I was ignoring their calls and threatened me and my family. We called back and ordered a cake, a pony, and a box of bananas.

I received the same phone call yesterday from this same number but I decided to do a little digging. I received a call from "Steve Hart" who claimed to work for Abelson and Associates. I received a voicemail stating that I owed over $800 for an outstanding loan (he had my correct social and correct address). I called "Steve Hart" back and he stated that I owed this money and if I didn't pay I would be sued and have a warrant issued. I asked him what form of payment they accepted to see if it was a scam and when he stated that I would have to pay via Western Union or Greendot I knew it was a scam so I asked what the address for the law firm was and he gave me the address of 1000 Connecticut Ave., NW Washington DC 20036. I then told him that I needed documentation stating what I owed and to whom it was owed and he emailed me a letter in a word document which doesn't seem legit (a document I could have created in minutes). I then decided to do a little investigating and see if I could verify if this guy was for real so I googled the address and that's when I found the information for a legitimate law firm named Adelson Law Firm and contacted their office to see if he worked there. The after hours receptionist took a message with my information, stated that he received a call for the same thing before and said she would give Mr. Adelson my message.
Later I received a call from a so called police officer named "Bryan Atkinson" who stated that he worked for the Landover police and receive a complaint to issue a warrant for me to be picked up because I took some money and ran off with it. He never gave me a badge number and when I asked what the address for the station was and the phone number he gave me the information to the station down the street from my home (very easy to find a police station close to my home by searching the internet). I contacted the station and they did not have any officer working there by that name. I then received a return phone call from the REAL lawyer Michael Adelson and he stated that he has received plenty of calls and complaints about this scam and that he has no idea who this person is and why he is ruining his good name. I contacted "Steve Hart" again and told him that I received word that he didn't work there and then he proceeded to tell me that he does work there and that Michael Adelson is the head of the department he works in and that if I didn't believe him to just wait for him to process the paperwork in two days and go to court. Today I called the REAL lawyer Mr. Adelson and he was pissed because this guy is ruining is reputation. Mr. Adelson asked me if I had the number for the guy I told him I still had the number and he asked me to call him on a conference call. When I called Mr. Adelson asked the scammer who he was and where he was located and he said "what is you name sir" again Mr. Adelson said what law firm do you work for and the scammer said "Adelson and Associates, what is your name sir" Mr. Adelson then stated "I am Michael Adelson, and you are breaking the law by using my law firms name trying to scam people, where are you located because I do not know you and you do not work for me" the scammer then said "I am sorry sir" Mr Adelson said "sorry for what" then the scammer says "I am sorry for using your law firms name sir" Mr. Adelson then asked the guy for the address where he is located and the guy wouldn't give it to him because he knew he would be giving Mr. Adelson his own law firms address. After that the scammer hung up and Mr. Adelson asked me to send him an email with all of the information and communications that I received from this fake and to keep in contact with him if I hear from this guy again. The real law firm doesn't even practice that type of law they practice injury law. I hope this information helps anyone who has questions about this. The real Adelson law firm is NOT behind this scam. I have been scammed like this before but luckily I was able to get my money back after my bank did and investigation and determined that is was a fraudulent charge.
