I too received a call from this number claiming that I had been chosen to receive a 7,000 dollar grant from the U.S government because I paid my taxes on time this year. All I needed to do was give them my bank info and they could transfer it to my account but there were stipulations on what the grant could be spent on. So I told them that I was at work and would like more information on this "grant" and since they already had my address, which they confirmed when I first answered the phone, I told them to mail me the info so I could look it over and haven't heard back from them since! These people are ridiculous, fortunately I and seemingly most of the people on here are not falling for their scam, but so many others do and something needs to be done about it.
Just got a call from these people alleging to be in Washington, DC. The number has a 202 area code, but as we all know, spoofing is quite easy to do and the number often means nothing. He had an accent, and he was telling me that my name (which is not my current legal name) at this phone number had been "qualified" by the "Federal Grants Department" to receive $7,000, which was bull****, and I told him as much. He tried to argue with me, but he was not successful, and I told him to stop calling with his scam or be reported.
I just got off the phone with a person calling from 202-301-4406 and providing the address of 200 Independence Ave SW Washington, DC 20201. They claimed I had qualified for a $7000 grant as well. When I told them it sounded suspicious, he said (in an Indian accent) that it was because I had never head of it before. When I asked him for a phone number, he "could not give it to me at this time." He asked when he could call back and I told him sometime next week. He asked, "Why so long?" and I told him it was because it sounded very suspicious to me and that it would take a great deal of research. Thanks for posting this as confirmation that it was just a terrible hoax as I suspected. Others, beware!
A man called me from this # and told me he was going to f*** me. When I asked who it was he told me it was my ex-husband. Funny, because I am still married to my 1st husband. I told him I was reporting him to the police.
