FRAUD ALERT: The caller claims to be working for the US Grants Dept and offering $9000 from the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. They give you an authorization number and a phone number to call them back. When I asked them to mail it to me, they said many checks did not reach applicants, so they are offering it to you at local stores like Walmart. For fun I called the secondary number to see how far they would go. They asked me to call them when I'm at Walmart, in this case, and to bring my cell phone and ID and they would give me further details from there. And...I was to bring $250 for the registration voucher which would be refunded to me once I got the $9000. Yup - there it is! Bring $250 with you...fraud!! Beware!! The government doesn't give you money - especially like that!!!
They called me claiming to be the U. S. Government and my mame was picked to receive a $9,000 grant from the U.S. Government. Of course it was a foreign person calling, I had difficulty understanding him talking, and I told him so. So he repeated all what he had said previously to me. So I went along with him, knowingly it wasn't true I'm sure. So I was curious as to it he would give me his name. He did give me his name, but I couldn't understand what he had said. I told him I couldn't make out what he said. So he repeated himself, so he stated his name, Benjamin Foster. So I asked him to be sure of what he had said. Yes I heard him correctly I stated. He then talk me to hang up and call directly to this number and to give his name as to let the person know who I'd talked to. I questioned why call the same number back that I'm already on the phone with. He stated his supervisor would be the person answering and to give his name to them, Along with a code (CW 221) and I asked why and told him I didn't understand. He stated once I call and give this info that I was to go to a Walmart, or Foodlion, Dollar Store, and asked about what convenience stores were near. He stated that they would be on the line and it had to be within 15 minutes, that they couldn't be on fun no more than 15 minutes. I asked MANY times is this going to cost me anything. He told me No repeatedly. I then told him that I want the name of their company to check it see if it's legit with the BBB. He said no you can't do that, I asked why not. He stated that I can not do that, and got sorta aggravated with. I stated that I was going to hang up quickly and check them out with BBB and after I had called them that I would call him directly back that I just needed to make sure it was a SCAM.. From there he hung up on me. I've tried calling number back, and you can't call back
