has anyone else received a mobile message saying it was 02 and number 2030? Saying they are about to send me settings so I can use WAP and Prepay mms and asking me to save and activate them if asked.
Yes, I just received 3 messages, supposedly from 2030, at 04.30 in the mornng!:
#1 (Standard Text Message): "We're about to send you 2 textst containing settings so you can use Wap and Mms. Please save and activate them if asked."
#2 (Standard Text Message): "Your phone should now be set up. If you have any problems, try switching your handset off/on. If you need to get settings again, text ACTIVE to 2020."
#3 (Browser Message): "Update is Required."
If these are genuinely O2, the time of day and manner are suspicious. Also, a search of the Internet suggests this has been going on since 2008, rather than a single recent marketing campaign.
I suspect someone is phishing for mobile phone numbers. In any case, texting messages to unknown numbers can result in charges, so I just DELETED THEM and did nothing, and would recommend the same.
It is strange that O2's own Website does not contain clear warnings about whether these are genuine or fake.
If you send "settings" or "active" to 2020 , o2 will just send you the settings to use their data and send mms all you need to do is install them , and they will reply via 2030 ,
If you are on giff gaff , its exactly the same proses just send "active" to 2030 , for some strange reason settings to 2030 doesn't work ??? Weird hey ? Tho depending on your sim they know which network you are using and will send accordingly
Received same message as others re 2030; I had just been checking phone out as no-one could ring me and I was not receiving texts. Then, lo and behold, this text came through fine ... but on checking I still can't receive texts or calls from anyone else. Very odd. Anyway, deleted message .
