Rec'd a rebocall for business loans. Pressed 1 to speak to someone. The live person with an accent would not give me the name of the company until I provided him with my company name, my name, and my monthly revenue. So, I made it up. Once I gave him the info, he transferred me to Gary @ Capital Advance who I informed I would be reporting to the FTC and to enjoy his $10,000 fine. I also reported to DONOTCALL.gov.
The message from Al is spot on; Filling a court motion is the only way that you'll ever get these people to stop calling you, aside from getting rid of your phone all together. These people know what there doing is illegal but they don't care because the majority of people they annoy or scam never file complaints, or better yet, a lawsuit against them. They make more money from their scams than what they pay out from law suits or settlements. Like Al said, don't get mad, get even! These people don't want to go to court so they settle with you to shut you up, so they can go about scamming the next person. Filing a motion isn't difficult, and there's actually plenty of lawyers that will do it for you, for free, but of course they take a percentage of your settlement. This also applies to any business that you have a relationship with. If you tell them to stop calling you but they continue to call they can be fined $500 dollars for each phone call! Most will continue to call even if you threaten to sue them so don't just threaten to sue, do it! I settled with the last company (that refuses to stop calling me) for almost $4,500.00 dollars! They NEVER called me again after that.
