Apparently they are using this number and another number in NJ. I have warned them to stop calling my cell phone but they just hang up and keep trying. What's the deal? Are they just stupid? Does posting comments here actually accomplish anything or are we just venting our spleen?

This is a discussion forum where one can report or describe suspicious or unknown phone calls. Your posts help warn others about specific phone numbers. However, reporting them here does not stop the calling. YOU have to take action to do that! (google is your friend). Consider buying a call blocker from your favorite store if nothing else works.

This site is for exchanging information on phone scammers, basically. More information that's out there, the less successful the phone scammers will be.
In your case see if there's an application that can block calls on your cell.
Also there are postings to let people know how to contact law enforcement and public agencies with complaints about telephone crimes. Or attempts at crimes. I've personally noted that a few of the Indian scammers, and others, are reading this site and attempting to post nonsense defending their stupid scams. Which means their income stream is being affected negatively. So I think there is some concrete good being accomplished.
I realize that no system is perfect, and we'll never be 100% free of phone scammers, but at least some progress is being made.
The way I see it. the two biggest culprits are the debt scammers both foreign and domestic, and the Indian scammer/extortionists.
