This was the FINAL attempt but it came from this same number.  I had one other call over a month ago but it was from a telephone booth (?) and I ignored it too.  Both went to voice mail.  I was in trouble with the IRS once before, over 20 years ago.  I know this is not the way they handle things.  Everything was handled through the mail  until I had to appear in person at the local IRS regional office to pay them with a certified check.

So when I got this second call, I googled the number and found this stuff.  I doubt that blocking the number will help.  When it gets enough blocks, they will just change it again.  It's already changed from the first call I received.  All of these posts are over a 4 day period.

I just received the call. I called them back and told them I knew it was a scam and that I was going to report them.  They told me to f*** off and hung up on me.  I tried to call back and there was a message saying the number had been disconnected.

I had a voicemail recording a couple of days ago “from the IRS calling to let me know that they had filed a lawsuit against me and that I need to call them back asap.” I was certain that they must have called the wrong number, but called back this morning. I was not expecting what happened next! The area code of the (fake) IRS phone number was 206 and it even showed “Washington” on my call log. A man with a foreign accent who was hard to understand answered the phone saying "IRS," gave me his (fictitious) name and badge number. He asked me what number the message was left on and when I told him, he had my name and address He told me that a lawsuit for tax fraud has been filed in my name for the years 2008-2012 and that I owed $2,795. I told him that they would need to let me know exactly what this was for. We argued and he told me he was transferring me to his supervisor. The supervisor was also rude and demanding and told me that he was trying to do me a favor and that that since someone had already been to my home three times to serve papers and I wasn’t home that this was my last chance to take care of this or he would have the warrant for my arrest enforced and I would be arrested and taken to jail immediately. He asked me how long it would take to get the money and I told him three hours to see what he would say and he became more irate and said that was too long. I hung up on him at that point and called H&R Block to inquire about this. They confirmed that this was a scam and gave me a phone number and website for TIGTA to report the call. TIGTA is an IRS agency that investigates these scams. H&R Block told me that they get calls every day from people who get these calls. I’d really like to call the scam artist back with a different conversation, but as the song goes, I think I’ll just call it a day. Please share this with your friends and especially the elderly as these people are threatening and scary. My first, and hopefully, last scam artist call.
