I received a call today from this number, they left a voicemail stating that there were severe criminal allegations about a former coworker of mine, and that they were forwarding the information to the courthouse tomorrow. Because I was listed as a reference to the loan, I was "equally involved and responsible". They left a number (206-424-8655) for me to call back to speak to "Dan Brown".
I called back, the same person that left me the message answered the call, as "Dan Brown".
He asked for my phone number, which I gave him and asked if I was "xxx xxxxx", I said that was no longer my last name, but wouldn't give him my correct info.
He told me to hold on and I said no, I will not, you called me and accused me of criminal activity, you will not put me on hold, you will listen to me.
He tried to tell me that it wasn't him, it was one of his 'junior associates' who left the message.
He told me that the person I used to work with sent them a loan document with my signature (which is a lie, I wouldn't cosign for my own mother, why would I cosign for a former coworker?!), I asked him to fax them to me. He said he would not.
I told him that the next phone call he gets will be from my sister who is an attorney, he proceeded to tell me that "tomorrow morning the officers are coming to arrest me" and he hung up.
I'm sure someone who is less educated on the scams out there would have called back already to try to resolve the 'issue' with the defaulted loan, and that's worrisome.
I got a call from these scammers today telling me that I had a check that bounced to a payday loan place for 300.00 dololars and if I didn't pay them 1000.00 to them today I and two of my refereces's would be arrested by the en of the day. I googled their number and found out they have been trying to scam a lot of people this way. DON'T FALL FOR ANY OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i also got a call from the same number 206-424-8655 at my work from a man supposedly named marcus ray, he said i took out a payday loan from cash net , which is not true, and said its was fraudulent and that i was being investigated for fraud, this man had a very heavy middle eastern accent. he stated he worked for the department of law and investigation, he told my the last four of my social but i told him that was not my number, he then stated that if i was lying i could be arrested for with holding information of and investigation, i told him to tell me the whole social security number, thats when i got scared, i told him i never took out a payday loan, he then told me my email address, where i banked at also. so i told him i wanted his number and his name so i could have my cousin who really is an attorney, to call him back and i also told him i was calling the police department because something wasnt right, he said ok i will be waiting for his call, at that point i was very shaken up and worried that someone has stolen my idenity and is doing fraudulant things and that i would go to jail for it. well thank god for the lady i work for who used to be a police officer. i told her about it and she took the number, hooked up a phone to a fax machine line to call them back on, she asked for marcus ray they put him on the line and she told him she was the security officer of investigations at the place i work and that i wasnt allowed to recieve personal calls at work and she needed some info to investigate so he told her he worked for the department of law and investigations out of seattle washington and that he worked for the fbi,so she asked for his badge number he said 0033 and she said ok whats the address there, he said she didnt need the address, she then said sir yes i do need the address so i can investigate this matter further, he refused so she then asked to speak to his suppervisor, so he told her he was the senior supervisor, so she then stated well i want to know why you wont give me your address im trying to do an investigation i want to know who do you report to? he then got really nasty and said to her (ill keep it clean but you can figure it out) " I F**K THE FBI" so she then acted like she didnt hear him and said im sorry what was that? and he then screamed it at her again and hung up on her. she then told me i dont think he will be calling here again. she was great. please if this has happened to you DO NOT FALL FOR IT ITS A SCAM. i really worry about the elderly people. please make sure to tell people about this.
