This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
It's interesting reading everyone's comments on this number regarding a debt collector or a bill owed. This number calls me like 5 times a day and leaves messages telling me I'm ore approved for a loan up to $8000. When my bf called them out on it they said they were calling from GE capital bank. The girls said her name was Tiffany and she clearly had a very thick accent. We could barley understand her. He told me it was a scam and ignore them.
I get called at least 7 times a day from that number. The last call that came on I didn't answer it, was recorded. It's left on my messages. 4 min of them not knowing they were live on the recording. There are people in the background fooling around And I guess the person that keeps calling me didn't mute his headset and so he is talking to these other people in his foreign language and it just goes on for the 4 minutes! Totally a scam!
I agreed with your assessment that it was some kind of a phone scam. They left me a message:
"The very second you receive this message, I need you <not audible> to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is <not audible> with the Department of <not audible - sounds like "regular fries"> of the US Treasury. The hotline to my division is 206-497-1297. Again, that's 206-497-1297. Don't disregard this message. If you don't return the call and I don't hear from you <not audible>. All I can tell you us good luck and fault on you. Thank you."
