Got a call on 08/10/2016 at 12:14 P.M. Had a threatening IRS message!! I am 72 and on a fixed income - very low, mind you!!
And I was threatened with being arrested!! This was on my answering machine, because I did NOT recognize the CRAZY phone number.
I did NOT answer! Okay now, the phone number on my Caller ID only had four numbers! They were 3097. Caller ID said, UNKNOWN NAME.
I entered this under 206-823-3095 by mistake. Anyway this phone number is allegedly to the IRS. I am reportiing this SCAM to the attorney generals office.
Received call from this number. Claimed to be the IRS. Told me I owe $12,000.00 in back taxes. I had two options to choose from. Pay them the $12,000.00 right then and there on the phone and if I refused, the police would be at my front door in 45 minutes to arrest me. Talked with two people, one whose name was Mike Conner, both were INDIAN (from India) and spoke very poor English. I was scared and hung up. Called a friend because I was afraid of being arrested. She came over, I told her what was said and she told me it was a scam. She called the this number back and when someone answered she asked to speak with Mike Conner. She was told she couldn't, and that she had to talk to the person that answered the phone. She asked again to speak to Mike Conner and again was told she couldn't. She then asked what was the name of the company he was affiliated with, he told her none of her business. She said, give me the name of your company or I will contact the Attorney General's office. They hung up. SCAM !
Call came in to my mother's number claiming to be from IRS, I (daughter) hung up and called back to tell them that I know it's a scam. They laughed and then hung up.
Received two calls from this number claiming to be from the IRS. The first time, I hanged up after they threatened me from a lawsuit. I know the IRS doesn't do that. The second time, I just let the answering machine handle it. I use H&R Block to file each year and know I do not owe back taxes.
Scammers pretending to be IRS agents are the latest "thing" with bogus calls, but never fall for any such calls. The IRS does NOT call people with such abusive messages, and many state attorneys general have issued advisories about such scams. The Caller ID read "UNASSIGNED." Fortunately, my online call-blocking service already had this number on its blacklist and stopped the call after one ring.
