I was called by a female (in Virginia 571-515-555) who told me I was selected by the government for a $7000 grant to go to school and that it didn't have to be paid back and I was selected because I pay my taxes and I have good credit and I am a good citizen. Gave me a confirmation number and told me to call her manager (Mr Brown) at the above number. I called back out of curiosity. For one thing, I know my husband and I make too much money to get any grant and two, Uncle Sam always leaves a paper trail and you don't have to give money to get it so when I was told I needed to bring $260 for "verification" purposes and that it was refundable. I knew it was a scam. Don't get suckered! If it is truly legitimate you should be the initiator.
I got a call from an asian lady saying I was going to receive $7000 from the government because I pay my taxes on time and do not have a criminal record. Then she wanted to verify some information which was just my address and name. She asked my how I would like to receive my money on my credit card, in my bank account or cash. I knew it was a scam from the beginning but just want to collect as much information as possible about what they ask without giving her any information. I told her cash. She then gave me a confirmation code 2-alpha and 4 numeral. She told me to call Harry Brown @ 206-905-9483 and give him my confirmation number to receive my cash. When I called that number he talked so fast when he answered and had a very thick asian accent that I couldn't understand him. I asked him to repeat himself and he just said what is this regarding and I said I had a confirmation number and he said a confirmation number regarding what and I replied with the confirmation number and he said to call him back in 15 minutes because he hadn't received my file yet. These people are scammers and need to be stopped.
i got a call from sam martin he told me i would receive 7000 dollars for giving 283 dollars to the children in need he gave me a confrimation number [***] well i told him i did not have the money who will like to do it and see if its true then let us know what if its real
Same story. Call from US Government Grants. Gave me a phone number to dial and a confirmation number. Told me I should call immediately and ask for Edward Brown. Told me I would received $7000 as a grant for paying my taxes on time. She confirmed several pieces of data. I provided no information. I sensed they wanted my credit card or banking information, but they didn't request it. I did not call them. I've been forewarned that some of these calls cost a fortune ($900). I think it's probably true that most things that seem too good to be true probably are. I am so thankful for sites like this one that allow us to surface and check out potentially fradulent activity.
