I just got a call from these clowns at "Check Enforcement Services", only the lady who loudmouthed me said she was a paralegal. Gee....from attorneys to paralegals....they're lowering their standards! :-)
Wouldn't provide me with a physical address ("security reasons", you know), but she gave me a P.O. Box number (204) in Amherst, NY. They blocked their number, and silly me didn't ask for it. I'll call these numbers just to see if they check out before I file with the AG.
I can't tell you how many times I have been threatened with service of a summons or arrest for loans I have satisfied in full. Funny....they never show up. Once, someone actually impersonated a sheriff's deputy in my county, and said he needed to take me in for check fraud. I played along and said I would be more than happy to surrender myself. I told him I was at the local Tim Horton's (which we don't even have), and made up a fake intersection complete with bogus street names. He happily agreed to meet me there in 20 minutes. I said "okay, see you then", hung up the phone and enjoyed a good chuckle. A REAL sheriff's deputy would have known that I just gave him totally bogus info, but this clown actually thought he was going to waste 20 minutes or more of my time and get me all freaked out by making me wait at a non-existent coffee shop. Sometimes, it's just too easy.
