I received a text message today from this number and this is what it said:
(GENERAT1ON F.C.U NOT1CES) Your acCount #415725/XX has been Block. Please call our customer service at 210-232-8917
Notice that the number that texted me and the customer service number they said to call are the same. I looked up GENERAT1ON F.C.U and found Generations Federal Credit Union based in San Antonio, Texas. Well I live in Maryland and have never lived in Texas and I had never heard of this Credit Union until today. Then I did a Spokeo reverse phone number search and found out that the number is a personal AT&T wireless number belonging to some women in, surprise, surprise...San Antonio, Texas. What bank uses a cell phone number to text their customers and then has that same cell phone number as their customer service number? None, that's what. So I called the "customer service" number and it was a jumbled automated voice who didn't identify what bank they were and I could barely understand. What I did understand is that they apparently updated their system and "our" cards got deactivated and we needed to press 1 to activate our cards again. So I press 1 and all the automated voice says is to enter my debit card number and press pound. No verification of identity or anything. So clearly a scam. I immediately hung up. I just wanted to get this out there in case anyone else received the same message so they would know it's just a scam, don't respond!
