The caller said her name was Samantha Collins, and she was calling to update our business information.  She wanted to know how many employees we had, where we were located, and other operating information.  I asked her what company she was with.  She said she work for the State of California.  I didn't believe her, there was a lot of background noise, and she had a strong Indian accent (there are a lot of call centers based in India) so I asked her what department she worked for and what was their website.  She told me that she was with the Business Development Department and to just go the general state website to find their information.  As I was talking to her I looked up the area code and found that it was based in San Antonio, Texas.  So I asked her where her office was based out of she told me San Francisco.  She must have gotten annoyed with my questions because she hung up on me.  I called the number back and it went to Sprint PCS voicemail.  She then called me back and wanted to try to get the information, again.  I told her she was commiting fraud by representing herself as a state employee and trying to solicit information.  I asked her why her phone number was based in Texas when she said her office was based in San Francisco.  She said because I'm moving from Texas.  I told her last time I checked the state didn't have employees use their personal phones to call businesses.  I told her that I would be reporting her, she then hung up on me again.  I called the State of California's Business, Transportation and Housing Department (this would be the agency over the department she said she was with).  They verified that they had no such department, and that I should call local law enforcement.  The local law enforcement said that it is not fruad until you actually give them your information, so there was nothing they could do.  Just be advised not to give anybody any information even if they claim to be with the government!!!

I also received a call from 1-210-249-8808.  The conversation started with a "I understand you guys are moving, is your permanent address ...." giving my correct address.  When questioned more, I was told that the called (also East Indian in accent) worked for Ontario Business Development and just wanted to confirm that we were moving.  When I questioned more about where he/she had heard that we were moving I was told that it had been flagged as a move.  When I asked to get the caller's phone number and I would return the call with the info, funny, the line went dead.  When I called the 1-210-249-8808 back I also got the Sprint mail centre.

For 2 months my company as been receiving calls from 'Vince' from the State of California Business Development asking a lot of questions regarding our potential move.  'Have we found a property?, what is the timeline for our move?, have we set a move date?'  These calls also cannot be returned by the number on caller ID 877-200-8808 and the individual on the phone will not leave a call back number.  He is very determined to have his questions answered regarding a potential move however he will not answer any of my questions and pretends he cannot here my requests for a call back number.  This is most unusual as it is hard to determine the purpose of such a solicitation - Harassment?

I just received a call today from a gal saying she is with the California Business Development Office. She wanted to know my address. There was a lot of background noise as well. It seemed like an odd call, and the call came from 889-777-1117. I tried calling the number back and it wouldn't work.
