They keep asking for a different person stating that he has an important package being delivered tomorrow.......for the past 2 weeks. Every single time I tell them that he is not at this number and to remove my number, they hang up!!!!!!!!!!!
A few months ago someone called from a blocked number saying that they were with Civil Procedures Division, and that they have been trying to serve me legal papers. The "server" gave me a telephone number to call. I called the number and they tried to get me to pay money for an unpaid balance from a Check & Go account, I have never, ever been there. They continued to try to scare me into paying something, but I told them to serve me and I would get a lawyer. Needless to say they did not call me back about that . It is totally a scam. However I now look up all numbers that come to my phone and now they are calling from different locations, even local numbers here in Houston.

So, the so called Civil Procedures Division have started calling from this new number now. Funnily enough, I recognized the man's voice after calling from a number in Dallas, Texas. Same script, same scam.
He identified himself as "Bruce Williams" and asked for the SAME name who does not reside under our phone number. Same script: "someone will be out tomorrow to serve legal documents blah blah blah."
We have been getting calls from these people on and off for months now from 5 different phone numbers. Always the same script. Always the same unknown name they ask for. Always the same, dead voices at the other end. And we always tell THEM the same thing. This time I decided to have some fun with them because speaking reasonably does not work. I asked this Bruce fellow if he had access to Google. He stammered a little and finally said "Yes". I told him to google the number he is calling from as well as the name of the company he "works" for and he will see that everyone online KNOWS that this is not legitimate and that they really need to stop calling. He got in a huff and angrily said, "Well, maybe it USED to be a scam...maybe it was a scam when you people took out loans for furniture and didn't pay them back! Maybe we need to start asking the REAL questions! Thank you!" And then he slammed down the phone.
um.....name of person that doesn't live here that I have been telling you for months? Er....loan for furniture?? baa...."REAL" questions?? gaa....the whole damn internet talking about this scam?? eh....angry comebacks from you even though YOU people are the crooks?!? I don't think so! These calls have gone from annoying to harassing but have now entered the bizarre stage!
I have reported all other numbers to the FTC and my Attorney General. I have informed these people of this a number of times and yes, the calls have slowed from daily to maybe once a week. It's still not good, but it is a start. We all NEED to tell these people that we know it is a scam. We NEED to report them all to the FTC and , most importantly, to our State's Attorney. I will be reporting this NEW number now as well.
And to "Bruce Williams", if you DID take my advice to looked some of this stuff up and you ARE reading this, you had better believe that your name will be all over my report. You people are crooks and liars and are taking advantage of desperate people during tough times and you should be ashamed.
Remember people: These calls are NOT real. They are a scam. The serving of legal papers is NOT preceded by a phone call by people who do not even have the right name or number for the people they are looking for. Nor do they have any other information. They are merely fishing. They cannot rightfully request money from you, they can NOT threaten you with arrest and I can promise you that NO legal papers will be served by these people. There is absolutely no basis in reality with these calls.
Be brave and, most importantly, be SMART. Do NOT give them any information. Report them to the FTC and your State Attorney and do not take any lip from them.
Got a call as well. I get weekly calls from these numbers about paid off loans and these companies tell me they don't want to hear it and then hang up on me and tell me they will see me in court. Threatening false legal action is harassment. Please report these companies to the FTC, BBB, and your state attorney general as well as their state attorney general. Also ask them for their physical address and if they only provide you with a PO Box then you know it is a fraud. This will often make the company very agitated but you need to know your rights. Ask them to validate the debt with certified mail paperwork. If they refuse to do this, cease all contact. Any valid company will validate your debt.
