Received 4 calls from this number in last 24 hours. Caller stated he was the Windows Help line and talked about malware on my computer. I asked for authentication. They hung up. When I did not answer the phone on a repeat call, they called back again 15 minutes later.
Just received a call from this number. TOTAL SCAMMERS. Heavy Indian accents, saying they were calling from a contracting company for "Microsoft Windows Corporation". The first male rep told me my "home computer" is infected with a virus and has been sending out messages to them for a couple of weeks; he was going to show me how to remove it. When I asked which of our home computers is doing that, he asked "How many home computers do you have?". I said we have two. By then I was suspicious and asked how he got this number. He didn't answer, just said "Hello?", and then gave the phone to another rep with a slightly less thick Indian accent. I asked him what name he had for my phone number, to see if he actually had my real name, and he gave me an incorrect name. When I told him that wasn't me and so he must have the wrong number, he said it was okay because my computer was still the one sending erroneous messages to their organization... DUMB RESPONSE. I didn't buy it and asked whether his files showed when I purchased my computer and initiated the registration for Windows. He said "How would I have that information? We are just a subcontractor." I said, "Well, if you can't verify you're even talking to the right person, why should I believe anything you're saying?" He responded by saying if I didn't believe him, I could hang up... so I immediately did. So glad I Googled the phone number and found this site where I could post my experience to help others who may be inclined to be more trusting of these callers. BEWARE and HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. Thank God for the Internet!!! :-)
(213) 459‑8159 Called. Microsoft support tech. (FAKE). I just kept repeating "Helllllllooooo?", "Helllllllooooo?". I enjoy messing with them until they hang up. Do not fall for this scam. Just waste their time if you have time to waste and report the number from which they call you.
The hang up calls are to determine if someone answers the phone or not. Get call display (if you do not already have it) and DON'T answer any number that you don't recognize.
These scumbags are only after your credit card # and/or to gain access to your computer. Unfortunately, people must be falling for their scam or, it would not continue.
I have screamed at these people, threatened these people, insulted their mother's, blown a whistle into the phone, asked them to hang on and left the phone on the table ....... NOTHING stops them from calling. They have called up to 20 times in one day, in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening but it wasn't until they called me in the middle of the night, that I hit my level of now-you-really-pissed-me-off.
I now have call display and call block and I use both features freely. Off to call block 213-459-8159
