You should always be careful who you let onto your computer when you get an unsolicited phone call.

For those of you who don't understand how your own PC's work, here are a few tips.

1. Microsoft does not employ technicians directly. period. ever. if you want a Microsoft CERTIFIED (expensive but simple enough test that takes under 3 hours to complete) tech you can find one at any of your local PC stores. Softwares can be Microsoft partnered or approved, companies are not.

2. If someone calls you and tells you to jump off a bridge would you do it? no. So why would you give them access to your PC (with your emails, passwords and personal files on it)? If you're willing to do that, please tell me where you live because I guarantee I can get you to hand me your wallet and thank me while I use it to buy myself a new wardrobe.

3. There are some legitimate companies out there, but they will not waste their time calling you, generally they are too busy taking orders to even want to place outgoing calls.

4. Don't believe everything you hear from a guy on the phone, chances are if they lied to you once, they are doing it about other things as well. For example, if you do actually go to that website you listed and look at the contact us section you will see that they are a company located in FLORIDA not CALIFORNIA. (I bet he's not a Microsoft partner either)

Lastly, what do people have against a call center sounding background? I understand everyone thinks an "honest" person is going to work in a private corner office while they're calling you, but I promise even Bill Gates would be too greedy to build enough offices for the amount of staff he would have to hire to complete a job like this, he's going to put his people into cubes just like every other phone call based company in the US.

Got a call from a guy claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support and that my computer was sending them Trojan virus reports.  I said I'd call back and he said to call 213-784-9596 and ask for Michael Clark.  He had an Indian accent.

The "errors" are not real issues.  They must be using phonebooks/whitepages because he addressed me by the homeowner's name, not by the name that my computer is registered under.  Microsoft doesn't contact you unless you've logged a ticket. http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/msname.aspx
