I had almost the same thing happen to me. But he notified me by phone and I hung up cause I thought they were asking for donations. He texted back with the exact same text word for word but he used the name Detective Byron Butler. I have strung him along for 2 weeks telling him I'd pay when I got paid. Tomorrow is the date I committed to. He texted me today to remind me of my payment being due. I made fun of him for letting me play him and he never responded.
Got texts from a detective Bennet walker sending me all these charges I had been charged with and telling blame that was $200 for some program and a $300 fine... haven't gotten the information for payment yet but I have to text in my first and last name to report in or he said I could go to jail...is this serious or a scam. I did nothing wrong
This sounds like something from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Zaphod Beeblebrox: “You think they want to arrest me over the phone? Could be. I’m a pretty dangerous dude when I’m cornered.”
Real detectives don't notify anyone of "charges" by text message! Nor do they demand you "send payment" to get charges dropped. This is a scam, pure and simple.
Total scam. It's an extortion attempt. Go to your local police department and make a complaint of extortion! Don't pay anyone anything! If you are going to be arrested, you will be arrested, paying a fine in the absence of a trail doesn't exist. These people are impersonating law enforcement. The real Bennett Walker is a real police detective in Cape Coral Florida. The person contacting you is an impostor and an extortionist.
