Dialed 239-288-2404 back after a call and no message. The answer indicated it was a solicitation from an outfit looking for donations to the Florida Police and Troopers Association. Don't know it that is a real outfit or another scam.
They called me too. This is the second call I recd in a week. I googled the call from the other "charity" and the post said it was a total scam charity. I am on the FTC "do not call" list so I think this has to be a scam. I spoke to the guy and he sounds like a total dirt bag scammer.
Just received a call for a donation from Eric Thorton and advised him that I do have 2 police charities that I support and cannot support their organization and can they add me to their do not call list. The man tried to get only $15 then the minimum support level of $10. Four times I said I can only support the two charities I have selected and VETTED and will not take dollars from those organizations, he ignored what I said and said he would send a "kit" for my generous donation. and tried to do not mail me anything and add me to the do not call list as I will not support them and do not want to be contacted. Guy cut me short as if he hasn't heard me.
So I called him back from my cell and the guy starts in wtih the spiel. Hi this is Eric Thorton, thanks for calling me back etc. I had trouble breaking in but finally did and asked if he was a human or a recording? Success! He was human and I asked if he could hear me ok or if he wasn't listening. Finally said he would add me to the do not call list - but of course did not wait around to get my main phone number. This is not a charity I would ever support (if it is in fact a charity - I could ot get him to repeat the company name.)
Anytime in the past when I have been contacted by a well known legitimate charity and asked to be added to their do not call list, they happily agree.
