Oliver Davis answers immediately upon call- Red flag. No automated message. Doesn't say that it's an attempt to collect a debt. Website only has PO box- Red Flag. Threatened me repeatedly that I needed to call him within 24 hours "or else". and continually told me that he knows where I work- each time I responded "and you do not have permission to contact me there, i am not allowed personal calls". Called me a thief and a liar ( I know I owe money- not proud of it- but I am paying many agencies back and getting huge chucks of my collections paid off). He promised to EMAIL me a debt verification letter- I told him i needed mailed, he refused and would only email one. He said it should be in 4 hours- 36 hours later... nothing. He called from 302-321-6072 and only answers with his first name. Told me about an "interest" charge and wouldn't disclose which company it came from.
Called original creditor and they said it was sold to a different company- NOT SMITH AND COHEN! I have placed a call to them to verify status of sold off account. and was sold WITHOUT the additional interest.
Please do not give him any personal information. I believe he pulled my credit report and may be calling based off of debts on the list-- and that he is NOT actually a legitimate collections agency!
Received a call from a similar number (302-565-4960), representing the same company, Smith Cohen. The representative, William Larkin, was rude, pompous and basically a bully. He seems to feel that he has the right to talk down to everyone he deals with. When pushed for valid credentials to prove his claims, he is able to produce nothing but useless chatter about his greatness and his self-ordained right to be the rude pompous [***] that he has so well perfected. I understand the nature of his business but the manner in which one conducts themselves has a major impact on the outcome of the transaction. My guess, at least in some circumstances, better results would likely be achieved in a helpful atmosphere, rather than a badgering, bullying approach right out of the gate. As far as I am concerned, this organization and this employee are scammers, unable to produce the necessary credentials to prove themselves a worthy business and should be clearly recognized as such.
