I find some of the remarks posted about these ‘faux telemarketer calls’ amusing. I put together a software program that has logged over 380 of these annoyance calls since 2012. Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will get another of these calls. Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid and passed it on. Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a person may be there on the follow up calls. If you have the capability to ‘block’ the number that called – that is the best action. If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously. If you really want to block them – there is reasonably priced software that a layman can install. Of the 380 calls I’ve blocked, only 16 have been in the last 6 months. So the message is simple – blocking works….
I have NOMOROBO but this call came through to my home phone. Guess no one reported it yet. I also have VoiceZone Enhanced, which can block an unlimited number of callers, and lets you use wildcard (*) in place of a number to block hundreds and thousands of numbers at once, or even entire area codes. Works with my Time Warner phone system. Will add this number to the list of blocked numbers.
Didn't answer the call, but have received so many of these nuisance calls, that when a new number from a city in which I know nobody suddenly pops up on my caller i.d. with "Unknown" as the calling party., I manually have my Phone Tray block it. From this point forward, when that number calls, the phone will ring only once and then be zapped.

I agree with you, I unplugged my answering machine since most people that I know don't call my home anymore, and I have heard also that answering for any reason or calling them back to be removed only puts you one yet another list. I purchased a call blocker device, I not only block the specific number that comes in but I also block the entire area code since I know nobody from that area code. Also I have been sending printouts to each state Atty. Gen. letting them know that they need to do something which they can I used to work for the phone company they could track these numbers down.
I agree, too, but unfortunately, I do have family in DE, and specifically one with a health issue, so this call was answered. Blocking may work, but sometimes you have no choice but to answer. Normally, calls from numbers we do not know, or 800 numbers, go unanswered. If they really want us, they'll leave a message. But what looks like a personal number from an area where we have loved ones... That's a different story. Looks like these scammers are sinking to a new low.
