Message came up on my computer and I was a little sketchy, knowing it might be a scam.
Called them and hung up, but they called me back, so i said wrong number and hung up lol
They got me. Yes fraud. Called me from 1-800-9821678 said they were from comcast. I believed them, because i has an appointment with comcast next day. They said they need to do a diagnostics test before someone came out. I gave them access to my lap top. Yhey took over took all my family pictures from facebook
. Changed passwords. Then told me to give them money if i wanted control of my computer back. . I shut down and unplugged all my electronic equip. rushed to the bank. put holds on everything. rushed mmy laptop to geek squad (Best Buy) they still had control of my laptop. could not shut it off. Neither could geek squad at first. The hole time while I was going to the bank and best buy (302)397-0107 kept calling me and demanding money. Even after I told him I knew he was scamming me and I was at the police station. (which I really wasn't) Please don't fall for either numbers. Both men had asain accents.
I called comcast and reported to them that people are pretending to be thrier employees. thay checked the numbers and said google had flagged both #'s as possible scams.
A friend got burned by this scam this week. He recently signed on with Verizon.
The caller said that he was from Verizon and wanted $99 to remove malware from his PC.
Both his laptop (Win7) and brand new desktop (Win8.1) are infected.
Do these "scammers" actually know when Comcast or Verizon get new customers ???
And, how did the malware get onto his computers ?
