I have received numerous calls from this number and other numbers, it is a recording talking about ways to reduce my credit card balance. When I stay on the line to talk to a representative to tell them to take my name off their list, I usually get hung-up on. Today when I they called I managed to tell them that if they did not remove my name I would report them..and the man said "Who are you going to report m to [***]!!!
I got a call from this number. They claimed to be Merchant Card Services and claimed that they could save me a lot of money on my credit cards by offering "seniors with good payment histories" a rate below 6.0% due to a new law that required this. They claimed to be the company that handles all Chase, BOA, Mastercard and Visa card issuance and could immediately implement the changes to get my rates below 6.0%. They had a lot of my information in hand, which was spooky. Their pitch was very clever, but obviously fraudulent. When I asked him if he could provide the last 4 digits of ANY of my current credit cards, he could not. I hung up and reported them to the FCC.GOV website. It was a foreign voice, a large call center and I hope no one gives them any personal info. I believe this may be a large credit card fraud operation. BEWARE.
Of course it is fraud. This scam has been operating for years from a variety of locations. As fast as the government shuts them down, three more spring up. They are like cockroaches. For every one you nail, there are ten more hidden behind the walls. Since many of these scams now originate from overseas call centers, it is harder and takes longer to get them shut down and often they have moved on to a new number before the authorities ever get to them. All we can do is get the word out about these scams so fewer people get taken in by them.
Advise the Florida State Attorney General and the local municipality about this scam. I have gotten several recorded messages. Today I pressed 9, told the barely speaking English male that it was a violation of federal law to call anyone on the do not call list. He hung up. I called back and left a message advising him that the FBI was on their way.
How about having one of the local area code 305 TV stations investigate it. Here they are calling me in Virginia.
