SCAMMERS: People's Assist. trying to SCAM anyone they think they can. They won't leave a message. I won't answer these calls. I don't know anyone from there. HA HA HA. GETTING A CALL BLOCKER for this NONSENSE.
If you call them back, they give you the option to press 9 to be added to their Do Not Call list. You'll need to press 9# very quickly to do this, before they hang up on you. Get your fingers ready to press those buttons.
"blocking numbers" is a never-ending exercise in futility, because the phone companies - Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc., but mainly Verizon give these criminals apparently unlimited access to thousands of phone numbers, primarily to "spoof" Caller ID, but also to frustrate authorities. Believe it or not, but complaining to F.T.C., sooner or later, and in sufficient numbers does (eventually) produce results. (BTW, F.T.C. stands for Federal Trade Commission, an agency of the Federal Government, headquartered here in Washington, D.C., accessible via phone, U.S. Mail, and the Internet. They have the power to shut these a**holes down.) According to Consumer Reports, the F.T.C raided one of these scumbags "boiler room" operations, which allegedly took in $18 million. That' $18 MILLION! Yet, this scam continues - they just set up somewhere else, and start over. Why? it's very simple - they make Big Money. And, the phone companies are complicit in the scam. Why? Again, Big Money! Phone Companies charge them so much per phone line, and then so much Per Call! And, neither the criminals nor the phone companies have the moral fiber to stop this. I gave up on the phone "blocking" quite some time ago. My son suggested having the home phone disconnected, but I'll be damned If I'm going to deny myself the convenience of a home phone, fax machine, etc. My advice - just refuse to answer any calls from a number (or "no number") you don't recognize. It's really just that simple. Yeah, they are annoying, but that's just my reaction - which I control. If it's important, the caller will leave a message. But - NEVER give out ANY PART of your Social Security number, ANY bank information, ANYTHING about your credit cards, etc. Then, all you'll have is a minor annoyance, and FTS. I hope this is helpful
