Probable scam. Do not donate! Called and said he was soliciting donations for homeless veterans. Told him that I do not give donations over the phone. I asked him if the charity had a website and he said it was veteransvision. I live in St. Louis and the caller had a St. Louis area code with "unnamed" in caller ID. The man assured me it was a 501c3 charity and again asked for a donation over the phone. I repeated that I would check out the charity and do not make phone donations. There is a publication called Veterans Vision based in Virginia. There is also a different website associated with that publication called vetsvision. That website is for a charity called "Circle of Friends for American Veterans." However, that charity has abysmal ratings with very little of raised funds actually going to veteran outreach programs. The majority of the funds go to pay salary. Not good. Who knows if this guy was just pretending to be with the organization (his website info was wrong) or if he is legitimately doing fund raising on their behalf. But, either way, I would suggest that you go to BBB giving or Charity Navigator and find more reputable veteran's charities who will wisely use donor funds.
