New scam number from St Louis. We NEVER answer unknown calls regardless of the area code. We're in S California.
Also, we never call the scammers back. If you do, that will assure them that you have a live, working telephone number...a number that can be sold to other criminals and /or used again at a later date.
Have now blocked the entire 314 area code.
We received a call from 314-932-0060 at 4:33pm, CT, on Fri 2/3/17, The Called ID listed it as "Card Assist." My wife spent 2 hours on the phone with them. I asked them for their company name, and was given "SSS," as their company name. They claimed to have a B+ BBB rating. They had no website to check. Their address is 10151 University /Blvd, Orlando, FL.
When I learned that Fed Express came by just minutes later, and picked up a $3,500 check from m,y wife, I called USA.Gov at 844-872-4681, and the lady who I described our situation to said: "It sounds like a cc rate reduction scam." She referred me to the FTC site at ftc.gov, and to search for "Credit Card Interest Rate Scam.
I did and it sent me to an article entitled: "FTC and Florida Attorney General Sue to Stop Illegal Robocalls Pitching Worthless Credit Card Interest Rate Reduction Programs."
I had my wife call our bank and immediately put a "Stop Payment" on our $3,500 Check. Fortunately we spoke with someone who was able to put a Stop Payment on our check!! (A $33.00 charge, and well worth it!!)
The name of the company listed on the Fed X Receipt was "SFS" (not "SSS" as they said) and their number in the receipt is shown as shown as 866-226-1644.
How did you block them? They are calling my job. I gave her a fictitious name hung up on one agent who called back with an attitude. I answered and told her she was calling a law firm and to stop. I hung up again. She called back, I answered but didn't say a word. She said, "That's okay. I'll call back." She is persistent.
