Got 2 calls from a Steve Martin, claiming we are under criminal investigation. Left message, has a foreign accent. Rec'd a second message, same song, same verse, but from a 916-276-2430. Obviously a scam!
I received a voice message from my home phone, and the message threatens me regarding to Federal Tax. I tried to call the number left in the voice mail, and the lady picked up the phone and said that I will get arrested because I did not pay federal tax for year 2012. I told her that I did paid federal tax for that year, and she said I did file a false amount. And she also said that the IRS sent me the form and legal documents and got no response from me. Therefore, they issued a warrant to arrest me. I was so panic, and I told her that I did not receive any notices from IRS or any forms. She said her job is to send out the warrant to arrest me. I asked her to help me out because I did not know anything in advance, and she said she can contact the Federal Officer and she transferred me to him. The man talked to me very firmly that he can help me if I can follow his direction. He also said that the total amount is $4,685, and I told him I don't have that much. But I can borrow from my sister. He told me that you are not allowed to tell your sister that you borrow money to pay for Federal Tax because this is personal.
I asked my sister signing me a check and headed to the bank as he directed me. He also told me keep the phone on and talk to him while driving to the bank, and I did as what he told me.
I got in the car and left my house for 1 minute and I thought It is not right, so I drove back home. He said why you drove home because he tracked my phone and know where I was. He also said "You lied to the officer. I will send out the warrant to arrest you now."
I went to the police department and reported the problem, and the officer told me that it was a fraud.
Same as above. I don't remember getting an earlier call but he said it was the second attempt to contact me. I figured it was a scam, so I checked the Internet. Thanks!
