These idiots just robo called me with an announcement about Obama's Making Home Affordable program. Time to report them to the Do Not Call list people. Robo calls are illegal whether you are on the DNC list or not.
From what I understand you cannot block a number called to your cell phone. You can list your cell phone number on the Do Not Call list, which will help, but these telemarketers use system generated numbers so they are randomly generated.
I received an automated call from this number. the recording said that I might be eligible for mortgage relief through the federal stimulus program. I was curious who was behind this, since I know the federal govt. is not making these kinds of calls, so I pressed one for more info. A man came on the line and asked if I was having problems making my mortgage payments. I asked him what organization he was with and he said the "guarantee department." I asked again what organization. He asked me again if I was having problems. I told him I wanted to know what organization he was with before I answered more questions.
He then said, "Well, you can just go F**** yourself then."
Nice!
The guy was clearly working a scam. I just fear others will get suckered into giving personal financial information.
I got a call from this 323-559-7283. This has been my 2nd unsolicited call about mortgage crisis help. My first call was with regards to help processing a short sale of my house. I told him I would never consider such a transaction since I owe less than half what my home is worth. When I inquired about how he got my number, he said it was a computer generated list from Bank of America since I withdrew and didn't qualify for a modification!
When this second call came in, I pressed the 1 to talk to someone. I wanted to know if BAC had also supplied my information to them. The rep gave me a name of some unheard of company but no other info so as I pressed for the info and was getting hotter & hotter, the man became very arrogant and cocky because HE didn't like the way I was talking to him!
So it is possible that Bank of America could be a common thread as to how everyone is getting these calls.
