This place just called me at 8:30pm. She said she wanted to send me something for a breast cancer donation. Told her I'm not working now and don't have money to send. She then proceeded to say she would send a different packet and it would only require a $15.00 donation. This made me angry, I just told her I didn't have any money and she is still asking for some. Even if I had money, I wouldn't donate to any cause that is this pushy. So I then told her I have a private unlisted phone number and I am on the do not call list and when I asked how she got my name and number she said they are a non-profit organization and so on. I just set the phone down and let her talk to herself.
Interesting observation here... Many reporting this number seem to be from SW Ohio, as am I. I began receiving more of thses types of calls after visiting a certain noteably large international market. Wondering if my contact/contacts info has been pirated while in this particular bysuess. As far as this call goes, I am also on the no call list and have a servive on my line that is supposed to block unknown toll calls, little good if they use non toll numbers or claim political or charitable status. I think we need to be demanding that our home phone companies give us more control on blocking unwanted calls. We pay for our service, we should be able to decide who, when, how or if we are contacted via a service we pay for. If these functions, call rejection and blocking, can be offered on a cell phone, which is far newer than home service, then they should be offered for home use as well. I've already called AT&T and found they have information they can pass on if asked but it's not info that they volunteer without requesting it. With so many going to cell phones only they're going to have to provide additional functionality to keep their dwindling customer base, might as well let them know what you want.
Got a call from this # & they were looking for donations & I said no thanks I've already had breast cancer. There was silence and I said so hey maybe you can help me out with my bills & she hung up! SCAM!!
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT contribute to these companies who cold call. You're just encouraging them to continue this approach and most likely your donation would never go anywhere helpful except directly to the pockets of the people running this scam.
LEGITIMATE CHARITY ORGANIZATIONS DO NOT COLD CALL RANDOM NUMBERS AND ASK FOR DONATIONS.
Steer clear, don't let them tug at your heart strings (or purse strings) and call the FCC or the state attorney general to report them. That's the only way these people will get the fines they deserve.
