Caller ID says Elec Authority offering discount electricity rates but wouldn't quote a rate without my current electric account number. SCAM. Once they have your account number, they can apply for credit cards, etc in your name. I have dealt with legitimate discount utility services companies many times, and they quote a rate BEFORE needing your account number. Also, the rep had a middle eastern accent, and 90% of the scam calls I've received lately are from people with middle eastern accents. I'm not a bigot, but I am a realist.

Additional information to my previous comment: The primary reason unsolicited sales people want your current utility account number before they explain their discount offer is so they can "slam" you, which means switching you to their discount plan without your knowledge. This is illegal, of course, but it often works and is much easier than "selling" you their product.
They call my mother/s number constantly, I had have it put on the do not call list. I did a *69 and got to get the number that called and a voice message said to press 1 for do not call. My mother is elderly and this %%%%% is trying to trick my mother into giving information out. She might be elderly, but she's smart to know to give out any information. I'm going to further investigate this number and find the source and report them.
