This man called me saying that my brother was in a car accident and he was badly hurt. Said that he's a civilian and got my number from the injured family member, then asked me to verify my brother's name in exchange for more info. When I said that I don't have a brother, he said that I misunderstood him and he said father. I refused to give him any information, which led him to describe how bloody my dad was and tell me that I was disrespecting him, even taunting me to call my dad because he can't pick up. Eventually, I lied and said that I'm a minor and I didn't know what to do and he said "Oh oh, never mind. You can't help." and ended the call. Luckily, it was pretty obvious that he was lying because I live 5 hours away from my dad and there's a list of about 100 close family members living near him that he'd call for help first. But it was pretty scary. Please don't let this guy get any further with his scam. (Got ahold of dad. He's happy as a clam on a golf course right now.)
This is a variation of the 'Grandparent Scam'. Well known & reported scam. You would of been asked to use a cash wire transfer service to send money. Always a tipoff to a scam. NEVER NEVER use these services where you do not know the receiver of the money personally, and always check if someone has been injured/lost/arrested FIRST.
A Spanish male called me from this number claiming that he had one of my brothers hostage after a car accident took place. Male said my brother was asked not to call the police and that when my brother tried any way that the other guy in the car was a gang member and he hit him with the gun and that my brother was in bad shape. The guy said the damage done to the vehicle was $5,000 in repair and that if I wanted my brother to be release safely I would have to give him $1,500. Long story short. I confirmed the safety of my brother while he was on the phone and was able to realize I Was being scammed before I gave the money or any further information to that man. Beware of scams like this!
I just got a call from this number and it was a man who said my brother was in a bad accident and then asked for me to verify my brother's name. I asked where he was calling from, he then ignored it and repeated that my brother was in a blood accident and to verify his name.
I asked where he was calling from again and he then hung up.
Male called me from this number, telling me my brother was in car crash in Plainfield, NJ, when I told him I don't have a brother I was told that he wasn't saying it was my brother it could have been my son, after I told him I have no son (I'm in my early 20s, so yeah its physically impossible) I simply told him I had no male relatives and he hung up. So, yeah definitely a scam..
