They left a message on my machine several times. Being skeptical and knowing that any IRS action will come by mail (Flag #1) I called anyhow just to see. Daniel Cruz answered with a thick Indian or Pakistani accent (Flag #2). He asked for my wife's name. When I told him she wasn't here he talked to me anyhow (Flag #3). Any tax collection would be in both our names (Flag #4). He gave me a bunch of "official" mumbo jumbo including an ID#. He then asked for my lawyers name (Flag #5). When I interrupted him and asked what exactly this is in reference too because the IRS will do official business like this by certified mail he began to start cursing me out (Flag #4 - He knew I was on to him). I proceeded to tell him what he could do with himself using "colorful metafors"
Claimed to be with IRS - someone was going to be arrested for tax fraud. Heavily accented English. Call came in as "unknown - private number." They did leave a call-back number as shown above.
I received a message on my answering machine from these Pathetic Morons, apparently I am guilty of "Tax Evasion" and "Fraud"! The "Federal Government is going to issue a Warrant for my arrest!" My use of the word Pathetic is an under statement!!! I tried to call them back, it just rang several times and then automatically disconnected. I truly wish that I could actually talk to one of these [***]'s, I would have a blast, (if you know what I mean, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.).
I'm a retiree with A LOT of time on my hands. I have to admit it, I kind of enjoy these calls (I'm a big fan of absurdity.) This call, and the one from "Microsoft-your computer has become infected with a virus and is sending us error signals" are my favorites, but the guys from the "Microsoft" scam will at least stay on the line while you criticize their technique. The female caller from this scam hung up when I just mentioned she would have to work on her accent, and also not go straight for the hard-sell (she said she was from the IRS criminal division, and asked if I had a criminal lawyer with me at the time of the call!) to make her scam more believable. Hope they call back, as my entire morning is open!
