SCAMMERS PRETENDING to be with the IRS. Creature with a thick Indian accent left a message on my answering machine informing me that I am the target on an investigation into tax fraud/evasion and before they take this matter to court and before the local sheriff's department comes to arrest me I need to call them back at 571-354-7807. (I would have posted the entire audio message here but it was too badly garbled and hard to understand for a precise word-for-word message translation.)
The number traces back to a block of numbers currently owned by a VA. company called BANDWIDTH.COM CLEC, LLC and
is listed as an unlisted landline. Those people must be confident they can get away with this because they are now opening
leaving messages on answering machines thous leaving evidence that can be used against them. Here are the facts:
The IRS will never call you and tell you that you are about to be arrested nor would they use anyone other then a person
who can speak English to attempt to talk to you. The IRS sends it's notices out in writing and will never use a threat of arrest
on a cold call like this.
This is a common scam and if I had bothered to call it back and let them try to reel me in, I am sure I would have been
instructed to go to some store, and buy a number of pre-paid debit cards and I would have been expected to give them
the numbers so they can suck them dry. The IRS DOES NOT DO BUSINESS IN THIS MANNER, preferring to use the
court system to extract it's pound of flesh; if it really thinks you owe something it will demand it in good ole' American cash,
check, money order, etc, sent to their office, or by bank debit cards, credit cards, all of which is traceable and recoverable
by you, when you later find out you are a victim of fraud, unlike with those pre-paid debit cards...
Since it appears I am the first person to get called on this number with this type of scam I felt it was my duty to warn everyone
as quick as I could, if I get an extra hour to myself, maybe I will translate that VM and post it in it's entirety here, but the bottom line here is this is a scam, don't send them any money, don't give them any information, don't even bother to acknowledge their existence, unless you want to be targeted for additional scams in the future.

Omg this number called my phone today. I'm so glad that you posted this.I actually called the number back and the guy reads off multiple accounts of tax fraud .he states that officer will be coming to your home in 45 minutes to arrest you so that you can go to jail for 48 hours and well all the IRS $190,000.
