I answered a call from this number, which appeared to be a local Northern Virginia number, based on the area code. The caller said she was a paid solicitor "calling back" from Breast Cancer Outreach, a charity group trying to raise funds for a vaccine for breast cancer. I had never heard of them or from them before. I asked for a web site to look them up, and she told me one, which I planned to look up while she talked. I had to ask for clarification of the web address, and she gave me a slightly different one. The second version brought up the Harry & David commercial specialty foods website, even though the web address was nothing like Harry & David. It happened twice, so next I typed in their name and googled them. They are based in Orlando, Florida. They are registered with the IRS but seem to have no reviews, no rankings on Charity Navigator, so I don't know if they are a legitimate charity or not. They might be, or they might be a scam. I could not tell. Even if they are legit, though, I have my own preferred charity to which I prefer to donate. I blocked them from calling again, unless they use a different number next time.
Received a phone call from this number, with the CID showing Sterling, VA. I didn't recognize the number, so I let it ring. No message was left, which sometimes is an indication of a scam call. After reading Virginia's post (first one on this list), I Googled Breast Cancer Outreach. Unfortunately, there are several organizations with names very similar to this one, so I'm reluctant to make any further comments.
Received call. Answered and the person asked for my wife by name. I said, "Hold on, I will get her." When she got on the phone it started a promo for Breast Cancer Research. Never could get the person back on the phone.
