Shown as unknown on caller ID
Said he was from Verity Electric(Energy?) Started to ask if I received a notice in my last electric bill about a 10% reduction in electric costs. Sounded like a scam type call
Oh, and for the shills on here defending this company as legit (you probably work for them): if I get called 5 times a day from someone that I did not request a call from or contact previously.... And they never leave a message I call that SPAM, plain and simple. Annoying.
Just talked to Verde Energy USA. It seemed weird (live caller with heavy Asian accent - sorry that's not PC, but, well, you notice it). I had that uneasy feeling in the gut, but I hung in as I was connected to a recorded round of questions and personal information requests to respond to. On one of the questions they told me they would give me a rate of 0.0659 per KWH. That was lower than on my bill. Sounded good (but I had that uneasy "too good to be true" feeling still). I completed the questions, got connected to the live rep again and seemed "registered" to receive the kit in the mail to convert to their plan. A few minutes later I got a call back from the live Asian accented rep, explaining that I had to go through the questions and information rounds again because they (paraphrase) "hadn't been able to get my name clearly" (on the full name question). But this time around, the rate had been changed to 0.075/KWH (from the original 0.0659/KWH offer) - this gets mentioned in a question on the order of "Do you understand that your rate from Verde will be 0.0659 (or whatever) KWK press pound if your answer is yes." It seemed like a scam technique - maybe he'll rush through the questions this time and won't notice the rate number got changed and went up. And the 0.075 rate is actually higher than for my normal service. When I refused to answer "yes" to this changed increased rate question, the question was repeated 3 or so times, and after I simply didn't answer, the live rep came back on to ask me why I hadn't continued. After a discussion of the information on my bill, stating my belief that their rate was now higher than on my bill, I was informed by the rep that indeed their offer rate was higher than my current bill rate. The discussion was discontinued and the offer therefore apparently cancelled.
It isn't absolutely perfectly clear to me that a scam was attempted or that this company is not legitimate. Call me dumb if you want. When I asked why the rate had been changed she said something about they didn't get my original provider correct at first, and the new rate was in comparison to my correct provider. But I was left with that sleazy feeling about it all after all.
you are obviously retarded, just because the company is based in Connecticut does not mean they don't have call centers in difference states stupid . I personally know that Verde does business in Texas and Illinois, and they are legitimate company but you're obvious paranoia is keeping you from contacting the company directly. York electric provider will know about them. All this scam and phishing and other [***] is just morons talking.
I guess it's true what they say about the blind leading the blind
Just a word of caution.... make sure the supplier you are CURRENTLY with doesn't have a TERMINATION fee before you switch!! My current one states that if I cancel, I have to pay $10.00/mo X remaining term!!!
Verde Energy does exist and is has a A- rating with the BBB.
