I was suspicious about this # since they never leave messages and call at odd times. After some very extensive research, I discovered that this is an unlisted # for PPL Inc. Although when you call, it is a call pilot for "North Hill Corp" or something of that nature asking for a mail box #.
I have no idea how legitimate this # is or whether it is affiliated w/ PPL Electric Utilities.
Got an automated call from this number indicating message was for Katherine and then spelling my last name. It identified itself as PP&L and said to call asap. It gave me a number to call, 866-466-0089, and told me to enter PIN 49055. It also said this pin would expire in 48 hours.
I was suspicious immediatley, so I called from another phone other than my cell phone, on which the message was left.
It gave me amessage that an installment payment is due (i am on an installment payment of my bill +$20 each month). It asked for an immediate payment and to give them my bank routing number, at which point I hung up.
That was 5 days ago, when I checked the numbers yesterday they didn't work. I called PP&L and explained what happened, and he said a payment from me was due on the day I received the call, but that I wouldn't have a notification of a late payment on the same day the payment was due.
PP&L said it wasn't them and to report to local authorities, which I did.
I also put word out on Facebook to warn my friends.
Never give ANY bank info to ANY company, unless YOU call THEM at a KNOWN business number.
