Called me saying they are from the CRA and filed lawsuit because of tax evasion. Asked me if I have lawyer, and then went on this big speech which I didn't understand half of it because he had an Indian accent (even though his name was "Sam Smith"). When I confronted him about why they are not sending me any letters or paperwork containing information about this, but instead just calls me in the middle of the day, he claimed they did that. I asked him what my address is, and he put me on hold to look for it for 10 minutes! During that time, I searched up the number, and saw many people reporting them as scam on this site.
When he came back, he gave me my old address from more than 2 years ago. I knew it was definitely a scam then, because I am 100% sure CRA has my new address, as they have been sending me letters to my new place. I played along a bit more before confronting them about it, telling them if they really are the CRA, they would have my correct address on file. And if I really did something wrong, send the paperwork to my correct address, which I am not giving to them because they should have it. He got defensive and nasty telling me to lower my voice. I told them I searched this number up, and I know this is a scam, will be reporting them, then he hung up...
Kind of fun confronting scammer, but still would have liked them not wasting my time. Anyone know where I can report them?
Received a call stating CRA. Used my previous surname. Received this call a year ago. I knew it was a scam. Makes me angry they the RCMP haven't caught these people.
A threatening call about tax fraud involving the RCMP and the CIA. The caller is a Sam Martinez with Hindu accent. He informs that he is a representative of Canada Tax Revenue and that you have to go to court.. At the end he said "I will see you behind bars". All this is a scam and false representation is a crime.
