I received a call from this number today. I don't have caller ID on our business line, but I did *69 to find out what number they were calling from. The person on the line had a thick accent and I struggled to understand him. He represented himself as being from Frontier and just needing to verify our information for our listing. He verified my name & title, the business name, address & telephone number, all of which he already had other than my title. Then he said something about our phone number, listed in front of our name, had been entered incorrectly in the yellow pages. He said there was a .95 cent charge to get the erroneous number removed and put the right number in. They didn't want their customers to pay that since it was their error. He told me all of the questions the machine would ask and how I should answer them. He then connected me to the "deactivate machine", which was a bunch of recorded questions I was supposed to answer. ("Just to verify information they already had.") when the machine got to the questions relating to the charge, I was supposed to state my full name, birthdate, and that I was authorized to make decisions about our phone service. The automated voice started fading in & out, dropping out some of the words even though the connection was good. When I told them that I wouldn't say yes to questions I hadn't ever heard all of, he told me it was just because they had so many people working on this that it was jamming up the phones. When I told him I wouldn't be recorded saying yes to a question that I didn't hear all of, he got his supervisor on the line to "explain it better." He gave me the same b.s. the other guy had, and then told me to only say yes after the tone. I then reiterated that I wasn't going to be recorded saying yes when I hadn't heard every word of the question. He told me that I could trust him, because he was going to give me his name & ID number. Then I asked what company he was with and a call back number. He told me his name was Alan Fernandes, ID #F6016, and said he worked for Frontier. I asked for a call back number and he gave me 1-800-745-4245 ext 22.  I picked up my other phone (different phone line) and called his number and got a recording that said "all of our agents are helping others, please try your call again later."  I also called the number the recording had given, but that just rang once then changed to a busy signal. After telling him that I called both of those numbers and couldn't get anybody on either one of them, he told me again that all I had to do was answer the question by saying yes.  I finally told him that since I couldn't verify that he was legit, we were done and then I hung up.

To clarify....... The call came from 647-555-0149. When I called it, I got a recording that said "we're sorry, your call cannot be completed as dialed."

The number the guy gave me was 800-745-4245. That recording said "all of our agents are helping others. Please call again later."

The number the "deactivation machine" gave me was 800-223-8160. That gave me one ring then changed to a busy signal.

Bottom Line:  They could be legit, but I really don't think so.

The 555 prefix is the fake one used on TV shows and movies, that's the 1st clue this Indian is a scammer
