Called Toronto area on Feb.7/14. These are computer-dialed calls; the number isn't real, it is spoofed. The machine dials number after number, and these crooks purchase phone book listings; sell/rent/share lists; they don't KNOW you. These are usually either American (Miami?) or off-shore call centres hired by organized crime. Legit companies respect the Do Not Call Registries; crooks don't.
All the fake surveys, win a prize, win a cruise, timeshare scams, you've won a trip to Disneyland (when you've never been there) - are scam attempts. Not only are they trying to confirm your number is 'real' and get your address and personal info; they also want the credit card or income data. The RCMP Top Scams has exposed that the real crime is they are trying to collect enough data to create Fake IDs in your name and they use it to commit more fraud! Just hang up. Don't press buttons, speak to an agent, call back, or bother to be rude - it just confirms your number is 'live' and you'll get more scammer calls.
Just got a call from this number. Didn't know the number so didn't answer phone. Thanks to all who wrote in to warn number is a scam.
